The Philippines' first-ever Olympic gold medalist will now share her wisdom in the University of the Philippines

FROM student to teacher.

That’s the next chapter for Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo in the academic field, as the first-ever Olympic gold medalist of the Philippines is set to become a lecturer at the University of the Philippines.

Diaz bared the news on her social media account after meeting with the College Executive Board of the UP College of Human Kinetics.

Diaz-Naranjo said she entered into teaching so she can continue to learn after earning a diploma in project management at College of St. Benilde.

“When they asked, ‘Why teach?’ I said, ‘Because I want to keep learning, and I hope my students will learn from me too,”’ said Diaz on her Facebook page.

“Designing a curriculum to promote and spread weightlifting has always been a dream. I’m excited and nervous, but ready to give my best.

“I love weightlifting, and I’ll keep doing my best to grow and share the sport I love.”

Diaz said she will start teaching in January 2026.
