BONIFACIO Global City, one of the most popular running venues in the country, has a fitting way to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of its namesake, revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio.
“Run BGC 2013: TakBonifacio” is a unique five-kilometer race set for Bonifacio Day on Saturday. Participants are encouraged to run wearing 19th century Katipunero or traditional Filipiniana attire while being chased by the bad guys of the period - the dreaded Guardia Civil while watching out for dangers in the obstacle-laden course.
Each participant is assigned a belt with life flags which the Guardia Civil will attempt to get.
Participants are tasked to navigate around history-inspired obstacles representing different places in Manila made famous during the Philippine Revolution against Spain - in San Juan Guardia Civil armed with water guns will attempt to douse runners; in Pinaglabanan the Guardia Civil will go after life flags; in Bonifacio, participants should be on the lookout for Andres Bonifacio, who will be giving away free life flags; Marikina features a giant inflatable slide participants have to climb followed by a crawl inside tunnels guarded by the Guardia Civil; and finally Balintawak where racers will be required to show personal examples of Filipino pride.
All proceeds of the event will go to the Bulig Bisaya (Help Visayas) campaign.
Prior to the race, participants are provided a red neckerchief and a belt with life flags prior to the race. A race bib is issued upon registration. There will be a loot bag that includes a TakBonifacio Souvenir t-shirt.
Top TakBonifacio finishers will be given cash prizes. There will also be special awards for Best Costume and the biggest contingent.
