Not just carpool: Grab finds temporary solution to water shortage

IT'S been three weeks since water stopped flowing regularly in some homes in the east zone of Metro Manila. Most of those affected can't help but curse and blame Manila Water, the main water supplier of the other half of the capital. Until today, the company has not presented a concrete solution to the growing water crisis (although they have waived some fees for its customers for April).

In the meantime, affected consumers have to line up for a fresh ration of water from local water trucks every day, often times, until the wee hours of the morning. While some households are already enjoying regular water operation, many are still living a la Mad Max.

If you're still one of the unlucky few without running water, then Grab's newest limited-time service may just be the war rig you need to beat this heat.

On Wednesday, March 27, Grab Philippines launched "Grab Igib", a water delivery service for select barangays in Marikina City.

On its official website, Grab said the service is free of charge, but any user who wants to avail of the program has to pay for P100 for the water container. Based on the photos shared by Brian Cu, Grab's country manager in the Philippines, the water is stored in 5-Gallon drinking water containers. Be warned though, the water isn't safe for drinking.

The service will only be available from March 27 to 29, from 4 P.M. to 9 P.M. As of press time, Grab Igib is only accessible to users in 10 barangays in Marikina City: Escopa III, Escopa IV, Industrial Valley, Jesus de La Pena, Tanong, Santo Nino, Concepcion Dos, Nangka, Parang and Marikina Heights.
