THE Games and Amusements Board has suspended group training in all professional sports during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

The GAB issued the directive on Monday.

“In view of the alarming spike in the number of daily COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region, provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, the conduct of health-enhancing activities (e.g., running, biking, aerobics, and any form of physical activity that benefits the health and functional capacity without undue harm or risk) and professional sports training shall remain limited to solo or individual activities conducted indoors or anywhere within the individual’s private property beginning March 29 to April 4.”

“Meanwhile, professional sports competitions and group training in areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) shall not be allowed,” said the GAB.

The PBA, Premier Volleyball League, Philippines Football League, National Basketball League, and the Women’s National Basketball League are among professional leagues preparing for competitions.

PBA teams have been conducted group practices in preparation for the supposed April opening, but some ballclubs have postponed such activities even prior to the GAB notice due to spike in COVID-19 cases in the NCR.

Before the ECQ, six PVL clubs were given clearance to undergo group training ahead of the league’s bubble with GAB approving the Ronac Gym in Shaw Boulevard as training venue for Choco Mucho, Perlas Spikers, and Creamline, Filoil Flying V Centre for Petro Gazz, SGS Gym for Unlimited Athletes’ Club, and San Sebastian College for PLDT.
