AS the Ateneo Lady Eagles’ crack setter and ex-libero Deanna Wong announced her commitment to Premier Volleyball League’s newest team, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, there's a big chance the fledgling squad will face off against longtime champions Creamline Cool Smashers.
While still in the process of building the team, Choco Mucho has already acquired talented players like Bea de Leon, Maddie Madayag, Kat Tolentino, Kim Gequillana, Manilla Santos, Denden Lazaro, and Caitlyn Viray, among others.
Former Adamson University standout Jema Galanza, who currently plays for Creamline, admitted in So She Did podcast that she’s stoked to face Wong again in the court.
“Exciting kasi makakalaban ko siya ulit. Ayoko siya maging teammate. Iba ‘yung feeling ‘pag magkalaban,” Galanza said.
They last faced each other in UAAP Season 80, during Jema’s last playing year in the collegiate stage.
It was then that they had that iconic stare-down.
On the podcast, Wong also shared that she’s found her comfort zone with her new team, mostly comprised of her former teammates at Ateneo.
“I think it’s already expected naman po siguro na sa Choco Mucho ako, based on the coach and teammates." Wong said. "I think it was on my favored side rin kasi nakalaro ko na sila lalo na sa UAAP. Yung chemistry nandoon. Yung system namin ni Coach O familiar na. Ayun, saka alam ko na rin plays namin nila ate Mads so it’s easier and comfortable.”
As circumstances in the country remain unpredictable, the PVL hasn’t also announced any plans for resumption. However, both teams are dead set on training at home.
“Kami sa Creamline, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 7:00am lagi yun every week," said Galanza. "Then Tuesday, Thursday, solo na training lang. Lahat yun sa bahay lang kasi masyado na mahigpit dito sa barangay namin. Bawal na kasing hindi naka-mask, hindi naka-face shield. Kahit jogging hindi pwede talaga."
Wong added: “Here lang at home kasi kahit GCQ naman malayo yung mga gym sa amin. It’s in the city and we’re in the province. Bago ako umuwi dito, pinabili ko na sila mama ng weights. Binigyan kami ng program everyday (Monday-Saturday) pero it’s not like kela Jema na virtual workout. Instead, we send videos kay coach.”
