HOME bet Thibaut Pinot ruled the eighth stage while Britain’s Bradley Wiggins retained the overall lead in the Tour de France on Sunday.

The 22-year-old French rider, the youngest in the pack who two years ago had proven his skill on tough ascents by winning the best climber title in the 2010 Tour of Romandie, made his move on the last of several small short climbs in the 157.5-kilometer race from Belfort to Porrentruy in Switzerland.

Pinot finished the stage in three hours, 56 minutes and 10 seconds, while Wiggins and last year’s champion Cadel Evans of Australia and Vincenzo Nibali of Italy checked in with a big group 26 seconds after the stage winner.

On the overall standings, Wiggins leads Evans by 10 seconds and Nibali by 16.
