THEY can act, that there's no doubt and yes, these celebs can play.
PBA 50 Greatest Players member Jojo Lastimosa was left impressed by some of the actors and models who played for him – and for the opposing teams – during the MVP Olympics All-Star game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Lastimosa admitted to being surprised at how competitive the Tuesday game turned out to be as his Blue Team edged out White Team, 60-59.
“It’s a beautiful game. When you see a beautiful game, everybody playing hard, everybody enjoys, whoever wins,” said the TNT team manager.
And other than the game, it’s the way the movie actors and television stars played that left an imprint on Lastimosa,
“I was really surprised to see some of the actors. I think they have experience in playing college ball, which is really nice,” he said.
“You can see ‘yung mga marunong maglaro angat talaga sila.”
The 61-year-old Lastimosa, a 10-time PBA champion player including a rare grand slam with Alaska in 1996, mentioned some of the names who caught his eyes during the game.
“Prince Carlos, Lance Carr, JC de Vera,” as he rattled off their names.
“Derek Ramsay, he’s kind of up there in age but he can still play,” Lastimosa added. “Si Wendell Ramos of course. Si David Licauco also.”
Carlos, Carr, and Ramos suited up for the Blue Team of Lastimosa, while De Vera, Ramsay, and Licauco played for coach Luigi Trillo with the White Team.
The Blue Team won the game on two pressure-packed free throws by Ramos in the final 4.7 seconds, before the White Team turned the ball over in the game’s final possession.
Carr top scored with 26 points for Blue Team, while Kevin Dasom led White Team with 21, Licauco with 16, and De Vera with 10.
No less than First Pacific managing director and CEO Manny V. Pangilinan watched the game at ringside of the Big Dome.
