FAUZI Ismail and his girlfriend Micah Joy Datul put up a samgyupsal and desserts delivery business to earn extra income and help out friends and teammates during this Coronavirus pandemic.
With the COVID-19 wiping out all sports events and causing financial crisis, the National University stalwart and his accountant girlfriend established a food reselling business named Dee Frozen Products, which offers frozen pork and beef, side dishes like melted cheese, kimchi and electric grill as well as desserts like leche flan, yema cake, graham float, and brazo de mercedes.
They are also selling bulk orders of face masks.
“Nung nagstop po kasi yung ibang source of income po napaisip po lalo kami. Yung expenses po kasi hindi nag stop. Naisip po ng gf ko na frozen products ang mabili since hindi nakakalabas mga tao,” Ismail told SPIN.ph.
The high-flying wing spiker, who last played for Air Force in Spikers’ Turf 2019 season, is also delivering their products around Sampaloc, Manila using a motorcycle due to high demand.
“Noong una po taga kausap lang kami ng mga supplier. Pero dumami na ang volume at demands ng mga tao kaya pati ako napadeliver na din,” he said.
Ismail is assisting teammate Ricky Marcos, who is delivering their frozen products around Imus Cavite using a bicycle, and also supplying chicken wings for Philipine men’s volleyball pool member Jayvee Sumagaysay’s food delivery business named ‘Sherep’ that serves wings and silog meals.
The Philippine men’s volleyball team reserve said that this is the best time to do ‘bayanihan’ with his fellow volleyball players while waiting for the sport’s go-signal to return.
“Hindi po mahirap tumulong sa mga kaibigan namin. Ang goal din po kasi namin ng gf ko tumulong sa iba. Grabe po kasi ung biyaya na nabigay samin ni Lord simula nung nag lockdown. Sobra sobra sobra po. Kaya po sobrang gusto din namin makatulong,” Ismail said.
“Pare-pareho po namin kailangan ng pagkakakitaan. Masarap po sa pakiramdam na in and outside the court nagtutulungan kami. Para na po pamilya turing ko sa teammates ko. Kaya po alam na po namin ang sitwasyon ng bawat isa. Kapatid ang turingan kahit saan,” he added.
