GOWNS, check. Nails, check. Confidence, still gathering some.
Eya Laure conquered the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament and was a revelation in the 2019 ABS-CBN Ball at Shangri-La Hotel at The Fort.
Like her game-day must-haves of two pairs of playing jerseys, University of Santo Tomas star Eya Laure also had two gowns ready for the ball. Without revealing too much about the design, she said that the gowns were made by Mark Tamayo at Louver del Castillo.

Making sure she has her knee pads and arm bands, she also had her nails done.
But her game face and swag seemed to have remained on the court.
“Rookie ako ball eh, hindi ko rin alam kung ano ang galawan doon,” said Laure, who played in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan hours before the grand event.
Laure finished with 20 points and 10 digs as UST overcame Arellano, 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23.
“Hindi siya kasi ‘yung nature dito, ‘yung environment na meron tayo dito, kumbaga kapag pupunta ka doon mamaya iba siya sa akin ayun makikiramdam ako,” she said. “Kapag doon babae tayo doon ganoon.”
Trying to make her feel better, UST coach Kungfu Reyes said in jest that Laure was more than ready to go to the ball.

“Look at the nails, tignan niyo naman nakaready na ‘yan,” said Reyes referring to the nail art. “Girl na girl siya mamaya.”
Don’t get her wrong, though.
She’s excited to be part of the glamorous ball, where the network’s biggest and brightest starts converge, but the young Tigress feels that it’s only a one-night thing and as the clock strikes 12 she has to go back to being a volleyball player.
“Nagte-training kasi ako, hindi ko naman pwedeng sabihin na magpapayat ako kasi after ng ball meron akong [training sa] Thailand. So ayun, kung ano ‘yung katawan ko, ‘yun na ‘yun,” she said.
When asked about her escort, Laure turned to Reyes, who again made the situation light.
“Wala, sayang si coach Kungfu [sana],” she said. “Kaya mas nakakakaba kasi ako lang mag-isa.”
“Escort daw ang kailangan hindi body guard,” said Reyes.
A day after the event, Laure along with Reyes, Jia Morado, Maddie Madayag and Jovelyn Gonzaga will fly to Bangkok, Thailand to join the rest of the national team for the training and the Southeast Asian Grand Prix from September 20 to 22 at Nakhon Ratchasima.
