Two major events are happening tonight, and the MMDA is girding itself for the gridlock.
The Southeast Asian Games closing ceremonies, a culmination of several weeks of sporting events, will begin at 5 p.m. at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac. The Philippine leg of U2's Joshua Tree tour, meanwhile, will start more than three hours later in the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
In a statement released yesterday, the MMDA cautioned motorists in Manila to avoid the yellow lanes at EDSA.
Bus convoys for athletes and officials will be taking the city's main thoroughfare to get to the sports stadium venue. At least 114 vehicles will be deployed.
“Convoys will use the yellow lane and inserts towards flyover, and tunnel/underpass while traveling along Edsa. Motorists are advised to avoid the yellow lane and give way to the convoy,” said the MMDA.
A set from hip hop group Black Eyed Peas (sans Fergie) will headline the SEA Games ceremonies. Group member Apl.de.Ap already rocked the crowd with his hit "Bebot" during the opening ceremonies last November 30.
Meanwhile, this is rock band U2's first time to perform in the Philippines. Band members have been spotted around the metro in the past few nights, sampling local food and the Makati nightlife.
