HUNTINGTON BEACH, California — In southern California, Jay-R Esquivel continues to shock the surfing world.
With Philippine flags fluttering on the shore of Huntington Beach, the first Filipino to ever qualify for the World Longboard Tour pulled off another big win at the Longboard Classic of the Wallex US Open of Surfing.

Esquivel handily defeated reigning North American regional longboard champ Richie Cravey, putting on a show atop the waves to close out his heat with 14.13 points versus Cravey's 7.40.
His three weeks of extra training in California paid off with a smart choice of waves in the textured afternoon surf.

Esquivel also shrugged off an interference whistled on Cravey late in the heat.
"Alam ko panalo na e," he said to Spin.ph. "Kaya surf na lang."
Meanwhile, three-time WSL Longboard Tour champion Taylor Jensen scored a finals day appearance with a close win against France's Edouard Delpero. Tony Silvagni and Kaniela Stewart also advance.
