EJ OBIENA has denounced the ‘false drama’ percolating on social media that purports him to be commenting on the private life of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo whose aim apparently is to drive a wedge between him and the Paris Games hero.
In a post on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), Obiena said he never made any statement about Yulo or his private life, saying that some social media sites are using him and Yulo to stir controversy by making up stories for engagement.
“I am friends with Caloy and have been for many years. And for decades to come,” the two-time Olympic pole vaulter said.

“I don’t compete with my friend Caloy and I deeply respect him. He is a great champion for our country and I applaud him. I am proud of him. I am thankful for the glory he has brought our country,” Obiena added.
Since winning two gold medals in the Paris Olympics, Yulo’s life has become public, with social media feasting on his relationship with girlfriend Chloe San Jose and making some nasty comments about his feud with his mother Angelica.
On this matter, Obiena, who narrowly missed a bronze in pole vault during the Paris Olympics, has drawn the line. He said he will never comment on Yulo’s personal life.
“I don’t comment on my private life and I certainly don’t want outsiders commenting on it. That’s why it’s called ‘private life.’ It’s personal. It’s nobody else’s business. Because I embrace these values, I never comment on someone else’s personal life. I HAVE NEVER MADE A SINGLE COMMENT regarding Caloy’s private life and I never shall. Any assertion otherwise is outright libel. I know when to keep my mouth shut; and when it comes to anyone’s private life this is one of those times,” said Obiena, who reiterated that he makes his official statements on his social media accounts.
“I am focused on getting ready for the upcoming season. Let’s focus on cheering our athletes on, instead of creating false drama to sell advertising space,” said Obiena.
