Indonesian wushu artist dedicates double gold to father who died while he was competing

Edgar Xavier Marvelo was informed of the heartbreaking news after his win

While his country is celebrating his two gold medals, wushu artist Edgar Xavier Marvelo from Indonesia received tragic news during his victorious campaign in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

According to a post in the 2019 SEA Games official Facebook page, Edgar's father passed away while he was competing in men's Gunshu and Daoshu on Monday morning. He was only informed after he was awarded in both events, which reduced the Indonesian team to tears.

    Later that day, Edgar uploaded on Instagram a photo of him carrying his country's flag and captioned it with a dedication to his late dad.

    Netizens expressed support for and offered condolences to the grieving gold medalist.
