IN case you haven’t heard about the latest dumb trend making waves on the internet, it’s called the Bird Box challenge, named, of course, after the Netflix Original film of the same name, where Sandra Bullock and a bunch of other survivors have to wear blindfolds to prevent influence by a dark entity that has taken over the planet. And that little group of survivors eventually included two kids, unimaginatively named Boy and Girl.
Anyway, that inspired YouTubers and social media influencers to create the challenge, essentially going through their everyday lives with blindfolds on. Unfortunately, their followers soon followed suit and tried it themselves, resulting in severe life-threatening injuries across the globe. Even Netflix had to plead for people to stop.
But looking back, there have been a ton of other stupid and risky challenges on the internet over the past years that were more fatal than the Bird Box challenge. We’ve listed them down for you here, but don’t even try doing any of it again. Please. We beg you. STOP. BEING. STUPID.
The Tide Pod Challenge
We don’t know where this one really came from, but it’s probably the dumbest challenge ever to hit the internet. Who in their right mind would dare to eat laundry detergent pods? Seriously? Why was this even a thing in the first place? Some YouTubers made it popular a couple of years back, and inspired hundreds of teens and kids to hospitalize themselves after chewing on some cleaning products. How messed up is that?
The #InMyFeelings Challenge
It’s all fun and games until someone gets hit by a car on the highway. Inspired by the infamous Drake song of the same name, the #InMyFeelings challenge had people step out of their cars and dance next to it as they moved along the road. It usually entails two possible outcomes: 1) you get run down in the street; or 2) the MMDA fines you for being an irresponsible citizen.
The Fire Challenge
It doesn’t take a genius to know that having the word “fire” in the name of a challenge is a no-no. Obviously, it involves pouring some flammable liquid on your body and setting yourself on fire in front of the camera. It should go without saying that you should never, ever try the fire challenge unless, of course, you want to deal with severe body scars and possible deformity or melt into oblivion.
The Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge
Every kid and teen around the world has heard of Kylie Jenner and her luscious lips. They may have been operated on or Kylie was just really good at her makeup, but that didn’t stop young girls from trying to copy her trademark kisser. In their desperate attempt, they would repeatedly suck on a shot glass (or anything with a tight brim) for several seconds and temporarily increase the size of their lips. And while they may look enticing from afar, it actually damages the lips and the skin around it. These can lead to a lot of pain and bruising, not only physically, but also on your self-esteem.
The Cinnamon Challenge
This challenge may seem innocent at first: you just have to eat a spoonful of cinnamon without drinking anything. But there are some serious risks associated with it. For one, you can actually choke on it. Not only that, it can get as bad as increasing the risk of pneumonia and a collapsed lung. Unfortunately, some have indeed almost died from doing this. So leave the cinnamon on your spice rack and get away. Thank us later.
The Condom Challenge
Who would’ve thought a condom would be a good way to murder someone? There have been different condom challenges but the one we’re talking about involves someone dropping a condom full of water on a friend’s head. Now, they may seem like the water balloons we played with when we were kids, but it’s far more dangerous than it seems. Assuming it doesn’t break when you drop it, someone could have a latex helmet full of water around their head and mouth that can cause them to drown. Some advice: condoms are used on different kinds of heads.
