You better say your prayers to as many gods as you can and eat a ton more vitamins because a thunderous Hulkamania will run wild on Netflix.
Seriously, we thought it was a joke, too! But apparently, Chris Hemsworth, our favorite hammer-now-ax-wielding Avenger, is set to portray one of, if not the most, iconic pro wrestler in the entire world, Hulk Hogan.
The film will reunite a killer tag team behind the scenes with Todd Phillips and Scott Silver, the respective director, and writer of the upcoming DC Comics movie, The Joker. Phillips and Bradley Cooper will produce via their banner Joint Effort, while Michael Sugar, the Academy Award winner behind Spotlight, will produce via his Netflix-based Sugar23. Also producing will be Chris Hemsworth himself, and a close friend of the Hulkster by the name of Eric Bischoff.
The Hogan project reportedly took months to put together, but are in the midst of closing with Netflix. Sources say it will focus on the origin and rise of Terry Gene Bollea as he becomes the red and yellow tights-wearing Hulk Hogan, and how he took over TV sets across the globe in the ‘80s. It will go back to the years when Hulkamania stood out as the strongest force in the universe, who subsequently parlayed his championship-winning leg drop and star power into the movies, television, endorsements, and video games.
To be honest, we have a lot of questions (and expectations) regarding Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal. When the time comes, will Hemsworth still look as hunky with a balding head or a bandana? Also, despite having a great physique, the God of Thunder will have to alter his body to look more like The Hulk rather than Thor. And how well is he going to mask his Australian accent, and put on a Venice Beach one? We'll just have to wait and see.
