CHARLES Barkley was the talk of Filipino basketball fans following his comments during the pregame show during TNT’s telecast of the NBA Play-In Tournament.
On Tuesday (Wednesday Manila time), Barkley poked fun at NBA reporter Chris Haynes after he revealed that he won an MVP award in a Filipino basketball league where he was invited to play.
“I was the MVP in a Filipino league that I’m in… I’m not Filipino but I’m a guest,” said Haynes.
“I know I’m going to get in trouble to ask this question. How many Filipinos have been drafted in the NBA?” said Barkley, drawing a laugh from Haynes.

Some took offense to Barkley’s comments, even taking shots at the NBA legend not winning any championships in the league.
Chuck takes heat
“Get the first ring first before barking,” wrote one netizen.
“How many rings for you Charles?” added another netizen.
“Filipinos have a chance to play in the NBA, there is no end to that. You winning a ring? No more chance,” a netizen also said.
Some were also not offended, saying Barkley’s comment was only meant for good-hearted fun.
“Gee, a lot of insensitive Pinoys here, hating on Chuck for telling the damn truth,” one netizen said.
“I’m a Filipino. He is telling the truth,” added another netizen.
“No hate. He is stating a fact,” one person commented.
