AS the Philippine National Team faces the tough University of Tsukuba in the 2019 Philippine Super Liga Super Cup on Friday, open spiker Ces Molina will exert even more effort to cover for the absence of Kalei Mau and Alyssa Valdez.
"From the very start naman, alam namin na iilan lang kami sa team, and wala si Alyssa, si Kalei injured, kaya kailangan talaga naming mag-take charge and mag-double time pa,” she said. “Kasi ‘yung mga taong papalitan namin sa position, hindi lang basta basta, malaki role sa loob, so kailangan maging consistent lang kami at bigay namin 'yung best namin.”
Mau will skip the game due to a strained neck muscle, while Alyssa Valdez prepares for a crucial finals game in another league.
As the PH team stays unbeaten in two games against Team Shine and Team Sparkle, the 25-year-old attacker took pride in their progress, having gone through several training camps to prepare for the Southeast Asian games.
“Happy ako na nanalo kasi at na-show namin lahat ‘yung ginawa naming sa training camps, and napakita ng bawat isa na nagi-improve talaga ‘yung team kahit na kulang sa preparation. So, malaking bagay na nagkaroon ng Super Cup para magkaroon kami ng ganitong exposure,” she shared.
Molina added: “Kaunti nalang 'yung time para sa SEA Games so malaking bagay talaga 'to, and 'yun nga, 'yung dalawang selection team ng PSL, malaking bagay na nandito sila para tulungan sa training namin.”
Head coach Shaq Delos Santos mentioned that major adjustments should be done as they prepare to face an aggressive Japanese team.
“Good thing we have the chance to practice tomorrow, and papanoorin naming yung team, aral sa mga attacks nila – especially yung service nila, hard talaga so kailangan naming paghandaan nang mabuti. Hopefully maipakaita namin na medyo used na kami na kalaban yung Japan kasi, nag-training kami sa Japan, and malaking bagay na makakaharap namin sila,” he said.
The PH team will face the University of Tsukuba Japanese team on Friday, 7 PM, at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
