PHILIPPINE Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) Chairman Alan Peter Cayetano has declared that tickets for 53 sports events will now be free to the public. This comes after President's Duterte’s plea to make the Games more accessible to the public.
“The instructions of the President is to make sure that all Filipino who want to watch live and can be physically present sa games, the organizing committee has decided that all games na hindi pa sold out yung tickets ay i-open at ilibre na," he said to reporters after a conference meeting in Makati.
There will also be free tickets for tomorrow's SEA Games opening.
“Additional general admission complimentary tickets for the opening of 30th SEA Games shall be turned over to the State Universities near the Philippine Arena for distribution to students,” he said.
However, basketball, volleyball, and football events to be held at Mall of Asia Arena, PhilSports Arena, Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, and Biñan Football Stadium, would still require tickets for viewing. According to Cayetano, tickets for these events are already sold out. Tickets for events that are still not sold out will be free.
“There are non-ticketed sports which are open to the public and there are also no complimentary tickets due to full capacity," he explained. "Yung full capacity, yun po yung sinasabi namin na sold out na.”
Cayetano added: "So what we will do is that LGUs (local government units) near the venues will be tapped and tickets will be get [sic] from them."
He also announced that additional tickets will be given away for the closing ceremonies on December 11. "The other 15,000 in the closing ceremonies will be distributed around the Athletics [Stadium], in Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bulacan," he said. The ceremonies will be held at the Athletics Stadium in New Clark City.
