Cavite gov fires warning amid surge in tourists heading to Tagaytay

CAVITE governor Jonvic Remulla has fired a warning for tourists who plan on travelling to Tagaytay City anytime soon.

Remulla on Tuesday warned that the tourist hotspot which offers breathtaking views of Taal Volcano is a "high-risk area" for COVID-19 infection due to its weather.

Remulla issued the reminder after Tagaytay experienced a spike in arrivals of tourists including bikers over the weekend after travel restrictions were eased as Cavite was downgraded to MGCQ.

Heavy traffic was experienced in the area during the weekend.

Another favorite destination of cyclists in the province, the Kaybiang Tunnel linking Ternate, Cavite to Nasugbu in Batangas, has also experienced a surge in visitors after travel restrictions were eased, according to residents.

Prior to MGCQ, checkpoints were very visible in entry points to Tagaytay City, with most bikers forced to turn around upon inspection.
