BOCAUE, Bulacan - Filipinos who witnessed the opening ceremony of the Southeast Asian Games went home humming the tune of the Hotdog's eighties hit 'Manila.'
The popular OPM song blared on Saturday when it was the hosts' turn to parade around the Philippine Arena during the traditional parade of athletes.
Unlike in most opening ceremonies where the parade of athletes have a somewhat serious tone, the mood was much more relaxed during Saturday's festivities.
'Manila' set the tone.
While the song was being played, President Duterte was seen clapping along while waving to the athletes. Even Sen. Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa caught the excitement and danced.
The song left an indelible mark on Filipinos who witnessed the opening ceremony either live ot on television, most of them experiencing the so-called LSS (last song syndrome).
Other OPM songs played during the ceremony were 'Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika' of Hajji Alejandro and 'Bebot' which was sung by the Blackeyed Peas' apple.de.ap.
There was also a heartwarming tribute to the late Francis Magalona that featured two songs of the master rapper and involved his son Elmo.
The program fittingly ended with Lani Misalucha, Inigo Pascual, Jed Madela, and other Filipino signers doing the 2019 SEA Games official song 'We Win As One.'
