ABOUT P20,000 has been raised in the first day alone of the Hoop Coaches International auction spearheded by Blackwater last Sunday.
Alaska coach Jeffrey Cariaso donated a Jordan 3 Powder Blue which netted P5,300, while coach Tex Winter's book Triangle Basketball which was donated by Aces scout Franco Atienza was sold at P2,000.
The fund raising activity was held after the Gilas Pilipinas special last Sunday which saw coaches Chot Reyes and Jimmy Alapag share their knowledge to cap off the five-day free webinar.
Aside from the auction, donations have also poured in from the Ravena family of TNT coach Bong, NLEX's Kiefer, and Ateneo's Thirdy; the Alas family of Phoenix Super LPG coach Louie and NLEX's Kevin, as well as Meralco coach Norman Black, Phoenix deputy Topex Robinson, and Ginebra shooter Jeff Chan.
The online auction continues on the Hoop Coaches International Facebook page, with two official Asean Basketball League (ABL) Li-Ning basketballs donated by ABL COO Jericho Ilagan up for bidding.
All proceeds will be directed on Blackwater's #BANGOnPilipinas initiative, which will purchase personal protective equipment for the frontliners battling the global COVID-19 pandemic at Pasig City General Hospital.
"It shows the coaching and basketball community really cares," said Blackwater sports director Ariel Vanguardia.
"We hope that everyone who are into sports give and we can provide them inspiration during these tough times."
"You can see the support from those who love the game and this is one way of us giving back, especially during these times," said Vanguardia, with the first day total alone amounting to P19,650.
