ATHLETICS is one of the most anticipated events in the Olympics for a reason and Filipinos felt that adrenaline, miles away from Paris, as they watched Philippine bet EJ Obiena compete in the men's pole vault qualification on Saturday afternoon.
Obiena entered the finals after clearing the 5.75-meter mark on his first attempt after finishing seventh place. The top 12 finishers will advance to the final round on August 6.
Prior to the feat, though, Obiena failed two of his attempts in 5.60-meter which had Pinoy fans 'kabado bente' [nervous] for a few hours.
