THESE rings should be the only rings we're shooting this lockdown. At least, as long as playing basketball is still prohibited under the existing quarantine protocols.
To support its local government unit's zero-waste project around the locale, Barangay Wawa in Taguig City installed basketball trash bins around its dominion to promote waste segregation in the most creative way.
A single set of bins is made up of three caged rings, labeled "lata", "plastik", and "bote". As of this writing, the barangay was already able to distribute three sets, with six more still to be distributed.
As they say, "One man's trash is another man's treasure."
The project is headed by Brgy. Wawa Sangguniang Kabataan chair Julian Enrico Cartano, who revealed that they give great value to every essential part of their community, including the trash collectors.
In this way, "We are teaching our residents on how to segregate their waste, recycle trash by its category, help our community become clean, and help our citizens make a living out of this," Cartano shared to SPIN Life.
The idea came from his young SK team, who are mostly active in sports as well. Cartano shared that he himself plays basketball.
"We came up with the idea of throwing trash in a fun and innovative way. [This is a big help] to those people who's income comes from trash collection to sell them to junk shops," he added.
