AUNT Julie is back, and this time she cannot be silenced.
Having taken a break from toxic social media culture last week, Aunt Julie, the rich (but not detached) and progressive tita of Manila, comes back cheering at the sidelines of the UAAP.
According to PEP.ph's Nikko Tuazon, "Aunt Julie" is the brainchild of Filipino content creator and social-media influencer Mark Averilla, aka Macoy Dubs, or simply Macoy. She is positioned as a "Ninang from Poveda", and has been dubbed by the entertainment site as the internet's favorite tita.
However, the character was briefly retired last week because of "cancel culture," according to Macoy.
But the political satirist and entertainer thought of no better way to announce the return of the sketch character than by placing her at the sidelines of a fictional UAAP game, being a supportive mom to her daughter Cassandra, a member of the De La Salle University Animo Squad making her debut in her first halftime performance.
In the video, Aunt Julie screams her heart out to support the child, and even joins the green and white crowd in their school cheer.
Then, she overhears an old man blurting out unnecessary remarks regarding the clothing worn by cheerleaders.
As you know, cheerleader outfits are usually miniskirts, athletic wear, or skintight body suits. This, however, is a necessary clothing to be able to perform their movements and stunts.
In the sketch, Aunt Julie tells off the old man. “Excuse me, what were you saying? Hey, you old man, you don’t judge women ah, they’re cheerleaders they’re supposed to wear clothes like that, maigsi,” she said.
Then Aunt Julie reminded viewers about the importance of voting since COMELEC announced that voting registration resumes tomorrow, September 1.
"Do not let toxic men win," she ended.
For many netizens, the return of Macoy Dubs' "Aunt Julie" sketch was warmly welcomed.
