ARWIND Santos makes it a point to wear something green in one – or sometimes all – of his accessories during PBA games, whether headband, socks, or shoes, as a nod to his Far Eastern University roots.
Off the court, he has a green thumb.
After all, the NorthPort forward is a certified “plantito," turning into that persona during offseason.
Just take a look at his Instagram account that features some posts where he gives a tour of his farm and shows off hanging papaya and green mango fruits that are ready for harvest.

“Mahilig naman ako magtanim eh,” the Angeles, Pampanga native said on SPIN Zoom In. “Kaya lang wala akong time. kasi pag nagtatanim ka, minsan kasi ako mano-mano, kamay, bubungkal, ganyan, syempre hindi pwede isabay sa paglalaro yan eh. Kailangan bakasyon ka talaga.”
“Tanim-tanim ka para at least may gulay. ‘Di ba sabi nga nila, ang guhay ay pampahaba ng buhay,” the 41-year-old cager added with a smile.
His creativity during the offseason definitely keeps him young.
“Pagka-bakasyon, ang lagi kong iniisip yung gumawa nung mga bagay na pagkaka-interesan ko like yung mag-tanim, gumawa ng arts ko. Ganun ako eh. Hindi ako komportable ng walang ginagawa.”
His creativity was in full effect after PBA games were suspended at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in the middle of 2020. One of his handcrafts was a mask made out of a mineral water bottle and a San Miguel Pale Pilsen beer can when he was still playing for the Beermen.
The 16-year veteran also made his own version of the classic Snakes and Ladders board game for his family to enjoy.
“Kailangan tayo, napapangiti ka, nabe-busy ka para hindi mo nararamdaman, kunwari December, ‘Ay, Pasko na.’ Parang ganun. Kasi kung wala kang ginagawa, nakakainip eh,” Santos said.
“Pag tambay ka lang, ang bagal ng oras. Pero kung marami kang ginagawa, talagang nama-maximize mo yung oras mo, nae-enjoy mo talaga. Positive energy para sa akin yun,” he added.
