Flashbacks spur Arwind Santos' apology to Terrence Jones

ARWIND Santos had a change of heart about his racist gestures against Terrence Jones upon remembering where he came from.

The San Miguel forward was initially unapologetic after directing a monkey taunt at Jones, before posting an apology video on Thursday. During the pre-game warmups of Game 6, Santos approached the TNT import to make amends.


    The newly crowned champion credited the stark realization to his humble beginnings.

    "Yung pagpapakumbaba ko ngayon, mas mababa pa diyan yung naging buhay ko dati," Santos said. "Yung buhay na bakal-bote, jueteng at pagtitinda ng barbeque yung dinanas ko, at naisip ko na magpakumbaba kailangan ko magpakumbaba, dahil yon ang matapang na tao."

    Fully aware of the influence that a prominent sports personality like him has, he wants to put it to good use. "Ipapasa ko sa mga anak ko yung natutunan ko. As a father, kailangan kong maging malakas at mapagkumbaba para maging magandang example at role model sakanila."

    Although it took him quite a while to own up to his mistake, these kinds of lessons stuck with him. Santos admitted that he may not be as highly intelligent as other people, but he has a deeper understanding than how this incident has painted him.

    "Willing akong bumaba para mag-sorry dahil aminado naman ako na mali ako."
