WHILE most families spend their bonding time at the movies, restaurants or out-of-town trips, actress Matet de Leon takes her family to watch volleyball games live.
The versatile character actress was with her lovely daughters, Michaela, Mishka, and Mia, and husband, Mickey Estrada, to watch the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference games on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
Although she admitted that the only time she played volleyball was when she was in Grade 6 for a Physical Education class, Matet revealed that her children love the sport and she supports them all the way.
“Pamilya ko mahilig sa volleyball, lalo ‘yung mga anak ko at asawa ko,” Matet told SPIN Life after the game between Perto Gazz and BaliPure and while waiting for the match between BanKo and Motolite.
“Kapag may oras nanonood talaga kami [ng live], kapag wala naman sa TV na lang kaya babad [ang TV namin] sa volleyball. Bonding na rin namin ito,” she added.
The former child star hopes that by taking her children to the venue to see the players up close, they could learn a thing or two about the game.
“‘Yung mga anak ko varsity rin sila kaya ito kahit papaano learning experience rin sa kanila," she said. "Natututo sila habang nanonood at nai-inspire sila.”
When asked if they have a particular team or player that they like, Matet turned to her 12-year-old daughter Mishka. “BanKo Perlas ang gusto namin,” she said. “Idol ng ate ko si Kathy Bersola and ako rin idol ko siya.”
If their schedule allows, Matet and her family will watch the games live again.
“Of course, manonood kami ulit kapag may time,” she said. “Kasi nagte-taping rin tayo kailangan natin ng trabaho para makanood ng courtside. Kahit tamaan kami ng bola tuwang-tuwa ang mga ‘yan. Ha! Ha! Ha!”
