THE country’s top long distance runners get to their limits anew in the Cardimax-Clark Ultramarathon set September 5-6 at the Clark Parade Grounds in Clark Freeport Zone.
More than 200 participants will take part in three different race categories, namely 100K, 50K, and 100K two-man relay.
Cash prizes and giveaways worth P300,000 are at stake for the top three overall male and female winners, and the champions in team, age group, and relay events
Beginners and aspiring ultra-marathoners were welcomed through an 18-week training program and mentorship delivered by veterans Jon Lacanlale, Tin Ferrera, Alfred delos Reyes, Daphne Codilla, Doodsie Mallari, and Wilnar Iglesia.
Race organizer Tin Ferrera said it had been her dream to hold an ultra-marathon in the sprawling facility that was once a former US Air Force Base.
“Having raced various distances from 5Ks to 200K, I have nurtured the intention to pay it forward to the community that has helped me sustain my love for running; a community that is a mix of aspiring and seasoned ultra-marathoners."
“It is a joy to be able to gather everyone in an 18-week journey that culminates in their first or nth ultra-marathon road race on September 5 in an ideal venue.”
A member of the organizing team, Jon Lacanlale said the event “will be tough yet unforgettable.”
“We want our runners to dig deep and explore the innate dormant strength in them. We want everyone to experience the special camaraderie and friendship among each competitor, volunteers, race officials, and spectators.”
