JACOB Ang is new to the game of golf and newer to his role as president of SMC Asia Cars Distributors Corp., exclusive distributor of BMW cars in the Philippines.
But by now, he knows both fields well enough to explain why a good golfer is the best ambassador to represent a finely engineered piece of machinery like a BMW car.
"He’s very precise, very consistent, very confident and that’s what BMW likes to represent – the confidence in everyday life, the precision," the youngest son of San Miguel Corp. top honcho Ramon S. Ang told mediamen as he introduced golfer Sean Ramos as BMW ambassador.

"We think he’s the best ambassador to show all of those traits," Ang added.
Ramos isn't having a phenomenal career, but he's steadily getting there. There is also admirable boldness in this young man who is so sure of himself that he turned pro at 18 and took on the small tours with girlfriend and fellow pro Laurea Duque in the bag.
The hallmark of Ramos' career has always been consistency. He doesn't bomb it a long way; but finds the short grass most of the time; He rarely goes really low, but doesn't make a lot of mistakes. He hasn't had a lot of career wins, but made the Asian Tour when far more heralded contempories are still knocking on the door.

It is that level-headedness and steady pace that convince Ang that the 21-year old is the man BMW wants on the wheel.
"In all of his performances, he’s very consistent. At BMW we want to promote consistency in all of our products and the life that you will inherit by owning a BMW," said Ang. "Sean has all of those traits and his improvement has been very consistent and his career on an upward trend and we believe he’s going to be good for a very long time."
As for Ang's own golf game, it's a work in progress. The former karting champ was hooked to the game as soon as he made his first par at the par-3 8th hole of Wack Wack's West course, and now finds time to play once a week, often with friends.
The single-minded focus, eye-hand coordination, and mental toughness that Ang developed in car racing come in handy as the 24-year old takes on the process of striving for the qualities that will someday make him a very good a golfer.
The goal is to be consistent, precise, and confident. Just like a BMW car.
