Sony and Honda have unveiled Afeela, a very powerful and highly intuitive, super intelligent smart car. It has 45 cameras and sensors, a very powerful AI chipset, and looks badass.
Watch out, Tesla. Sony is about to take on the automotive industry by storm. Sony recently showcased its venture into the automotive industry in a partnership with Honda as it unveiled Afeela, a super intelligent smart car with “unseen, extremely powerful technology.”
In March 2023, Afeela was unveiled at Sony Pictures Studios. The new car company promises mobility that people can feel as an intelligent entity.
“We aim to achieve the world's highest level of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems or ADAS by combining Sony's sensor technology, Honda's safety technology, and many intelligent technologies. We are aiming to develop level 3 autonomous driving optimized for specific conditions, as well as driving assistance features such as level 2+ autonomy for urban and other wide range of conditions,” wrote Afeela on its website.

The Afeela has a very, very powerful AI
Right now, the Afeela is equipped with 45 cameras all over its body. The cameras and sensors are inside and outside the vehicle operate on 800 TOPS of maximum computing power from its AI chipset. In layman’s terms, TOPS is the measurement used to count how many operations an AI can perform in one second. Apple’s iPad Air Tablet has 11 TOPS, while the powerful Snapdragon 865 chipset used on top-of-the-line Android smartphones has 15 TOPS, giving you a fluid, seamless performance. That gives you an idea of just how powerful Afeela’s AI is.
Afeela’s virtual world is a page taken from Sony’s gaming experience
On Afeela’s interior screen, you can experience virtual reality similar to the gaming experience developed by Sony for many decades.
“Enhancing the value of mobility space, we will expand it into entertainment and emotional space, by seamlessly integrating real and virtual worlds. To begin with, we have begun exploring new possibilities in mobility with Epic Games. By fully utilizing Unreal Engine, we will continue to create new experiences and communities for the mobility space that moves people,” writes Afeela.
Afeela offers a dashboard with a panoramic scene, thanks to its seamless screen that extends to both ends of the board. The steering wheel has been ergonomically improved to minimize the distraction of the screen. With intuitive button operation, the Afeela feels like an alien vehicle built to understand human touch and intent.
The Afeela will be available in North America in 2026.
