THE ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 is a beautiful behemoth of a laptop, capable of handling almost any monumental task you’d want to throw at it. From next-gen gaming to even video editing post processing that ROG Strix Scar 18 will tear through it with ease due to its raw power.
Unfortunately with a laptop this grand, it will also leave a Godzilla-sized hole in your wallet with a whopping price tag of PHP 299,995. It’s a future proof rig that would set you up nicely for the next 4-5 years or so and is a hell of a luxury of a purchase but if you have that much money to spare the ROG Strix Scar 18 is worth the splurge.
When I likened the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 to a behemoth, I didn’t just mean it from the inside because it also looks like one. With a hefty vibe and sharp angular edges, this laptop is far from being sleek and portable.
It also weighs 6.83 pounds or roughly 3.1 kilograms. The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 does come with a fancy ROG backpack to accommodate its size but lugging it around is probably not something you would do very often. It’s a proper workout for gamers that’s for sure.
god-like performance
The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18’s specs are monstrous in its own right. Inside is an i9 14900HX CPU with 24 cores and 32 threads and a double 16 GB ram. To tie it all in, its beautiful heart of a GPU is the Nvidia’s top of the line mobile graphics card in 2023 the RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6 while displaying it on an 18" WQXGA MINI LED with 240Hz Refresh Rate.
It runs Bethesda’s Starfield like a charm breezing through its loading screens in a flash with high settings all around. Given that Starfield has terrible optimization, this feat is exponentially more impressive.
Bethesda’s Todd Howard would also agree that the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 is a next gen laptop. Apart from Starfield I also tested the game out on Total War: Warhammer 3 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on High-Ultra settings and the ASUS ROG Strix Scar performed smoothly.
A problematic battery?
While the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 is a great laptop with many impressive features going for it, it still has its flaws. After an hour or so of playing Starfield, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18’s battery will already be running on fumes. It tears through games with ease as well as its battery life.
The heat in Philippine weather will also create extra problems for the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 because this thing can get hot as well so you better be using it in an air-conditioned room or a respectable cooling pad because the CPU temp could easily run into the 100 degrees celsius upper limit.
Because of this the fan does get terribly loud (annoying even). Fasten your seat belts because this laptop is preparing for take off.
But jokes aside, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 really does fly high as a laptop. Its loud but can you really blame it with an RTX 4090 underneath? Not really because it's still a thing of monstrous power that can run any modern game with ease. I probably won’t be bringing it around much because of its heft but the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 can easily handle my gaming needs for many, many years to come because it really is damn right ready for the future.
