(SPOT.ph) Everyone knows how hard it will be to commute to and from Manila this Holy Week. With additional bus units plying the Metro and railway systems having limited operations, it's only natural to expect roads to be congested-especially now that the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced the suspension of the number-coding scheme from April 17, Wednesday, to April 22, Monday.

According to the announcement, this is to ensure that there will be enough public-utility vehicles servicing commuters traveling to different provinces. They also noted that the number-coding scheme is automatically lifted from April 18 to 21, which are declared holidays, but the suspension is extended until Monday after the long weekend.

First implemented in 1995, the number-coding scheme bans vehicles from plying roads in Metro Manila one day a week, depending on the last digit of their license plate. The policy recently received an update pushing for the removal of the "window hours" policy that allows vehicles to pass through certain roadways even on coding day.
