ELON MUSK'S revolutionary Starlink has invaded the Philippines last February, giving more options for Filipinos when choosing their internet service provider. With its satellite technology, Starlink offers a fresh take in the Philippine internet service industry.

But besides its unique satellite-based internet, Starlink has other notable benefits namely its accessibility as users can plug it almost anywhere, as well as its convenience in setting up.

This makes it a go to service provider for rural areas and the faraway islands of the country, that do not have access to internet.

While Starlink's benefits would make it an attractive option for Filipinos, is it really worth the investment?

How much is Starlink?

For homeowners, Starlink costs around Php29,320 (discounted at around Php19,999). Included in its price tag are the satellite, WiFi router, cables, and other equipment.

However, the cost doesn't just end with its initial price tag as users will have to pay monthly fees amounting to Php2,700 - Php3,300, depending on the kind of service.

For the average internet user, both Starlink's Residential and Roam plans are recommended. For users who use the internet to watch streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon, or use it for social media or work, the Residential plan is already sufficient.

Meanwhile hardcore gamers should opt to go for the Roam service given its faster internet speed. Plus Roam service is more flexible as users can bring the equipment even while traveling.

There are also other plans like Starlink Mobility and Maritime, however these have more specialized purposes, with the former being used for road travels and the latter for seafarers.

Speed Test

And now for the most awaited part, the speed test. Is Starlink capable of matching its rivals?

MLBB streaming icon Setsuna "Akosi Dogie" Ignacio tested the connection speed and reached around 137 ping (262 mbps) in terms of download speed and around 37 ping (28.5 mbps) for upload while using his Samsung device.

On his iPhone, he garnered 231 ping (178 mbps) and 42 ping (18.3 mbps) in terms of upload speed.

Meanwhile, content creator Rowin Mandia decided to transition from Residential to Roam and witnessed a speed upgrade. His initial latency/ping was around 87 ms, which dwindled down to 49 after the switch.

He even tried a game of Mobile Legends and saw a drastic experience from 80ms and above, to around 40 and below.

Then when it came to typhoon situations, Mandia revealed in his video that Starlink is still reliable despite the harsh weather conditions, though the ping experienced a nerf.

Given the results, it seems Starlink is a reliable internet service provider that Filipinos can enjoy and perhaps we could expect more after a few patches and updates.

Will it take over the internet scene? Let's just wait and see.
