TWO VICTORIES, one weekend. Not a bad race day for rookie motorsports racer Gerald Anderson.
The actor-athlete, one half of Imus Bandera's 'The Fast and the Pogi' tandem in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, scored a third-place podium finish at the Celebrity Class - Race 8 of the recently concluded Toyota Vios Festival, held last November 9 at the Clark International Speedway.
On the ninth race, he moved up to second place.
The twin victories came as a relief for Anderson, who had started out winless at the first leg of the one-make motorsports series back in June. "I was tired of losing and not giving a good race for my fans/supporters who travelled from Manila to Clark every race to support me," he wrote on Instagram. "You guys were my motivation. I couldn't accept not standing on the podium before the Vios Racing Festival ended."
It was a welcome change from his previous, more modest motorsports-related IG posts.
Other celebrity racers in his class included Gretchen Ho, Chie Filomeno, Fabio Ide, Aubrey Miles, and Daniel Matsunaga. Vios Cup veteran Troy Montero won the top spot in both Race 8 and Race 9.
Anderson has been training for the festival since earlier this year, taking classes at the Toyota Racing School.
The Vios Racing Festival is this year's version of Toyota's annual Vios Cup. This season, it added the Autocross Challenge.
