FOR those who can't wait for the annual Manila International Auto Show in March or April, there's a new automotive event that can give us our car fix early in the year. Online car service portal Beepbeep.ph is organizing what it calls the first-ever Manila Autocon, to be held from January 31 to February 3, 2019.
Beepbeep says the Autocon is more than a car show. It's also a convention featuring car-industry entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and innovators who will speak on topics - presumably automotive-related - in front of roughly 500 attendees. The car-show side is a multi-day automotive exhibit complemented by aftermarket accessories.
But what makes Autocon interesting are the other activities mentioned during the press conference: car auctions, entertainment numbers, and car raffles. We were intrigued by the raffle part because this is something you'd expect from malls and casinos, not motor shows. We asked the Beepbeep management about the car raffles, and they said it depends on the exhibitors who sign up. The Autocon has a different cost matrix compared to traditional motor shows, Beepbeep said, so there's more leeway for exhibitors to give something to the consumers who attend. We guess we'll have to see next year what prizes await attendees.
Of course, one highlight is the presence of Guardians of the Galaxy and WWE star Dave Bautista. His character Drax was one of those dissolved by Thanos's snap in this year's Infinity War, but good luck asking him if and how he's returning for next year's sequel.
"We have lined up a formidable selection of resource persons to share valuable insights about digitalization, business expansion, new technology, consumer trends, and public relations in the automotive realm," said Beepbeep.ph CEO Anton Ojeda. "It's all about getting the industry up to speed on best practices and cutting-edge technology that will help and assure our future in mobility."
