DON’T be surprised if you see Caelan Tiongson riding a bike to Rain or Shine has games at the Philsports Arena.

Just like in past matches held in the Pasig City venue, Tiongson was spotted before Game 2 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series last week arriving in a Fiido electric bike.

“My e-bike is the best investment I’ve ever made,” said the Rain or Shine rookie, who uses the e-bike to go to games held at Philsports Arena, which is near his home at BGC.

The 32-year-old Tiongson said he decided to buy the e-bike from a friend to save on transportation expenses and beat the Metro Manila traffic during games and practices.

“When I first got to the country, going to practice, I was taking Grab everyday,” said Tiongson. “Bill was piling up, piling up. A good friend of mine was living in the country, bought the bike, saw that he wasn’t using it very much. So he offered to sell it at half the price.”

“We are kind of sharing it. When he is back in the country, we will share. For now, I’m using it everyday,” said the No. 7 pick in the PBA Season 49 draft.

The electric bike is similar to a normal bike but it has electricity to assist the cyclist especially in climbs and for a faster ride in flats.

Share the road

Though riding a bike in Manila's gridlocked streets could sometimes be both tedious and perilous for motorists, Tiongson said he likes the feeling of being outdoors.

“For now, I’m using it everyday and I love it. I love being out on the road,” said Tiongson.

"I just love to be outside," he added. "Just feeling the wind. I don't like sitting in a car. It's kind of boring. Being on a bike is a lot more fun."
