A FLASHLIGHT is an essential piece of kit - especially if you're a traveller or an outdoorsman. That said, they're pretty handy in an emergency too, provided that they're fully charged and within easy reach. Thankfully, this dynamic duo ticks those all-important boxes.

Spotlight Rescue LED Flashlight
P2,900.00 from www.tenkiebox.ph
If the small size of the Spotlight Rescue flashlight doesn't impress you, then perhaps the light output will. Rated at 96 lumens, this torch can perform a variety of roles - from a regular flashlight, strobe beacon, and even a bicycle commuting headlight. Its versatility stems from the fact that you can purchase a whole myriad of mounts and chargers for it - from silicon handlebar mounts, helmet and head straps (to free up your hands), suction cups to adhere to various surfaces, and even USB or car chargers. The latter means that it's easy to keep this torch topped up and ready for action.
The beam pattern has a slightly-defined central hotspot, with ample spill over to illuminate objects off to the side. The flashlight also has a strobe mode, which makes it useful for emergency signaling or for added visibility to traffic when bicycling.
The Rescue is also waterproof, and while you may have second thoughts of trying to submerge it, it's still good to know that it can withstand a drizzle or downpour - thanks to its sturdy aluminum construction and rubber seals. We think the price premium is worth the peace of mind.
Specifications:
- Light output: 96 lumens at 100 meters
- 60+ minutes of light per charge
- Rechargeable Li-ion battery
- Waterproof
- Accessories available separately

Spotlight Shril LED +
P950.00 from www.tenkiebox.ph
This junior sibling to the Rescue shares the same waterproof, knurled aluminum construction. While it may not be as blazingly bright as the Rescue, we found 18 lumens was good enough for most emergency situations. The size of a fat cigarette, the Shril LED, makes up for the lack in lumens via a trick up its sleeve, or rather, tube. The tiny torch is actually composed of three parts - the 18-lumen LED head unit, a screw-on compartment, and an emergency whistle.
The compartment is big enough for a a couple of pills (antihistamines, painkillers, etc), and there's a blank emergency ID card rolled up neatly as well. The whistle emits a shilling sound that is surprising loud. This works best in emergency situations - unless you want to annoy your better half or neighbors. To make sure the torch is around when you need it, it comes with a sturdy aluminum clip which means this can act as a zipper pull, keychain, or attach itself to a carabiner. Unlike the Rescue, the Shril LED is powered by common watch or hearing aid batteries. Spotlight includes a spare set with every Shril LED.
Specifications:
• Light output: 18 lumens at 20 meters
• Powered by AG5-LR75 batteries
• Waterproof
