Would you buy this P649,995 laptop?

LAST night, ASUS revealed its line of business laptops. Leading the pack in terms of power, prestige, and yes, price, is the ProArt Studio Book One, which sells for P649,995.

To put that price tag into perspective, a 16-inch top of the line MacBook Pro is P165,990. A brand new 2020 Toyota Wigo is P568,000.

For that price, you’re getting what Digital Trends is billing as “the most powerful laptop in the world.” It packs in a desktop quality video card, the Nvidia Quadro RTX 6000, which can run real-time ray tracing for rendering animations, and has enough memory to comfortably edit 8K video.

It’s also got 64GB of RAM and the latest Intel Core i9 chip. Rounding off the specs is a 1-terabyte SSD.

To cool down those powerful internals, it has a special hinge that slightly pops off the back of the laptop lid to vent out exhaust.

Who would need such a device? Asus says that it is “[d]esigned for data science, product development, and animation,” as it “can easily handle large-scale computations and graphics-intensive applications.”

Games, we assume, would also be no problem.

In yesterday’s reveal, ASUS Philippines also showed off other, cheaper laptops in the ProArt and ExpertBook lines. While they aren’t half a million pesos, they’re still pricey powerhouses all the same — the cheapest, the ExpertBook B9, retails for P109,995.
