THE name evokes images of the world’s best fighters, with photos of past and present champions lining the gym’s walls. But make no mistake, UFC Gym is a fitness facility, not a training ground for aspiring fighters.

Fitness enthusiasts will experience just that first hand soon when the one-of-a-kind gym opens in the Philippines

UFC Gym Philippines president Mark Dayrit opened the doors of the first UFC Gym in the Philippines to a handful of reporters on Wednesday, and cleared the air on what unique experience is in store to those who dare enter its doors.

"It's not a training ground for fighters. It’s for everyday people. This is open to all people," he said.

Dayrit said they are not looking to produce the next Conor McGregor or Jon Jones. They are simply offering unique services to fitness enthusiasts as young as three years old.

What separates this gym from others is while it puts premium on fitness, it also offers classes in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, muay thai, judo, karate, and wrestling.

The program was designed by former World Extreme Cagefighting lightweight champion "Razor" Rob McCullough, who graced Wednesday's event.

At the heart of the gym in Molito, Alabang is UFC's patented octagon, which patrons can use for training sessions - and for Instagram purposes as well.

But never will it be used for a gory bout, said the amiable official.

"This is not a gym where you will break bones or end up bloodied. No, that's not what it's about," said Dayrit.

"It's themed as UFC, meaning it's meant to inspire people to train like these (UFC) champions. But this is a very wholesome place to exercise."

The gym opens before the end of September, while the construction of four clubs in Robinsons Galleria, Vertis North, UP Town Center, and Glorietta are expected to open their doors to the public in the next six months as the first of its grand plan.

"Our commitment is to have 30 clubs in the next 10 years," Dayrit said.
