IT'S 2018, and the best shoes to go with a good suit are...still proper dress shoes. The only difference is no one will think "oh my, such a style rebel" if you decide to show up somewhere in a sneakers-and-suit combo—it might have been a bold move before but, trust us, it's not surprising at all anymore. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, but just make sure you have the appropriate kicks to pull it off. The general rule is to still let your suit do the talking, so no overly modern shapes, no tech features, no basketball shoes, and no outlandish colors. Simple is good, and here's a lineup of classics that you can pair nicely with your pants and jacket:
Give the Stan Smiths a break and pickup these football-inspired classics instead. Just as premium and clean, but not as hype.
Forrest Gump wore them with a suit and so can you!
Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66
There are few sneakers that look sleeker on feet than the Mexico 66 and that means it works well with a well-tailored rig.
Puma Suede Classic
It's all about the materials on the Suede. Keep the fussy fabric clean and it'll do you well when suited up.
Veja Esplar Low
This environmentally-friendly French brand makes clean pairs that are suit appropriate due to minimalistic-branding.
It's been Vans season for a while and going for a full-checkered Slip-On with a suit is about as bold as we'd go with it.
Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star High
A favorite of early instigators of the sneakers-and-suit look, the All-Star still works just as well today.
