Single guys stink more than those in relationships, according to study

Never in the history of man has anyone gotten a thumbs-up for having body odor and looking sloppy. Believe it or not, how you look and smell can directly affect your level of confidence and sex appeal.

A study released by Frontiers in Psychology reveals that single men have higher testosterone levels than those in a relationship and as a result, are more likely to have unpleasant body odors.

As part of an experiment, 82 women evaluated the body odor of men aged 18 to 35 years old. The men were instructed to engage in activities that would make them perspire, and after sweating it out, the armpit sections of their shirts were cut out for an odor test.

According to researchers from Macquarie University, single men scored an average of 3.5 out of six on the odor scale, while those with partners scored slightly lower at three points.

“Consistent with the hypothesis, single men’s B.O smelled stronger than partnered men’s B.O and single men’s faces were rated as more masculine than partnered men’s faces,” part of the study read.

Bear in mind, however, that increased testosterone levels and single blessedness aren’t the only factors that may cause unpleasant body odor. Natural agents like spicy food, medication, hot weather, and poor hygiene can also affect the way you smell.
