How Shaun Ildefonso built the body he's always wanted

Shaun Ildefonso believes that shaping up physically also brings out the fortitude in one's in-game attitude.

He shared in an interview with SPIN Life, "Last season, I was really not confident with my body, so I hired a nutritionist to help me with my physical and mental well-being."

Come UAAP Season 82, an apparent difference in Shaun Ildefonso's built has drawn a lot of attention. The 21-year-old forward credited five solid months of patience, consistency, and dedication to achieve his desired physique.

"I train and workout two to three days a week," he said. "That includes my upper body, lower body, and strengthening. I really dedicated myself to follow every step.

"Before, when I was building my physique, I do 200 push-ups and 100 pull-ups a day. Ngayon, I do a different routine for maintenance, I do shoulder presses and raises, and biceps and triceps workouts."

Despite the NU Bulldogs' dismal start to the season (0-5 win-loss record), Shaun has been one of their few bright spots with his solid performances.

More than a week ago, he exploded for 26 points and five steals in a 83-82 heartbreaker against La Salle. In their 71-50 blowout loss to Ateneo on Sunday, the older Ildefonso contributed nine markers and seven boards.

At the end of the day, NU's misfortunes don't take away from the hard work that Shaun has put in.

"I drink a supplement, while I eat more protein like chicken, beef, and fish, when I was building my body," he says of his all-natural and focused diet. "Now, for maintenance, I eat more carbs, take supplements, and drink lots of water. And, if there's a game, I work out two days before para hindi masyado heavy."
