CELEBRATING the 447th Araw ng Pasig, volleyball star and fitness buff Rachel Anne Daquis conducted morning exercises with quarantined patients of Pasig City’s Centralized Quarantine Facility in Rizal High School on Thursday.
On her Instagram page, Daquis posted a photo from the event and wrote: “Do you know that exercise in general can help boost your body’s natural defenses against illness and infection? Stay safe and stay awesome everyone. Thank you Mayor Vico for inviting me."
Rizal High School, the largest public secondary education institution in the Philippines (in both number of students and land area), was recently converted by the Pasig City government into a quarantine facility.
Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto also posted video clips of Daquis’ initiative. As seen on the video, the patients are still practicing social distancing while breaking a sweat.
The 5-foot-10 Cignal HD Spikers captain stood alone on the school grounds with a lapel mic, calling out instructions to the patients watching from the building balconies.
Sotto also replied to Daquis’ post, saying: “Thank you for making our patients happy! Some of them have been away from their families for weeks. Thank you also to Doc Gar for making this possible!”
Conducting physical activities (while following safety measures and protocols of general community quarantine) is part of Pasig’s plan to create a healthier lifestyle among its citizens. Pasig also recently improved its bike lanes around the city by clearly marking bike-only zones on the roads and installing high quality flooring materials.
