Paul George pays homage to 'PlayStation' in debut for new Nike signature shoe PG2

The PG2 is a fitting follow-up to Paul George's well-received signature shoe.

PAUL George is having his way in the NBA recently.

His team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, seemed to have found its footing after a worrisome start to the season. This was evident in their victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, 148-124, where George led the way with 36 points. The win also extended the Thunder's winning streak to four as the fifth seed (26-20) in a dog-eat-dog Western Conference.

Making its debut in the same game is the follow-up to his well-received signature shoe, the Nike PG2.

He shares in the news release, "As soon as I discovered PlayStation, I was throwing hints here and there to my dad—cutting out the clipping of a video game, cutting out the clippings of the PlayStation, leaving it on his dresser. I remember on Christmas morning, I unwrapped my gift and sure enough, it was the PS2."

Aside from several homages to the gaming console (light-up tongue, starry sock liner), the PG2 also features a construction upgrade from the previous one. George prioritizes lockdown, hence the strap being replaced with "dynamic wings," not to mention an increased forefoot Zoom Air unit for responsiveness.

He explains, "The thing I can do is go after the best players in our league and shut them down in the shoes. That's the goal. That's going to be the best way to highlight the PG2 and show all what they can do performance-wise. I got my hands full, but I got the right shoes for the job."
