HAVING his own signature shoe after what could have been a career-ending, horrific injury is already a sweet feat for Indiana Pacers star Paul George.
But to make it sweeter, George gets to put his face inside his debut sneaker, the Nike PG1 ‘2K.’
Two years after suffering a broken leg in a Team USA scrimmage, George gets the honor of having his own signature line under Nike, joining the ranks of fellow Nike endorsers LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving as the only active NBA players with their own sneakers made by the sports apparel giant.
Nike unveiled the PG1 on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time).
For its initial release, the Nike PG1 has a ‘2K’ colorway, a tie-up with the NBA 2K17 video game where George is the featured player on the cover.
Adapting to the Indiana Pacer star’s style of play, the PG1 has a low-top silhouette that features a forefoot strap and Flywire cable for foot lockdown. For cushioning, there is Zoom Air positioned on the forefoot.
For the upper, the sneaker has fish scale-inspired material and a bobber-inspired lacelock—a nod to George's love of fishing.
To top it all, George gets a personal touch with his 2K17 likeness appearing on the sockliner.
For its debut, George will wear the PG1 when Indiana faces the Denver Nuggets in London on Jan. 12 (Jan.13, Manila time).
The suggested retail price for the Nike PG1 is reported at $110, but there’s no official release date yet.
