If you think Player Exclusive sneakers are one of a kind, then wait until you hear about Nike's latest initiative.
The Swoosh brand's SNKRS app have joined forces with NBA 2K20 to launch the limited-edition "Gamer Exclusives" (GEs) shoes, which can be unlocked through gameplay in the basketball simulation video game's new MyPLAYER Nation mode. The gamemode's availability will coincide with the start of the regular season.
The first GE is a flooded purple Nike LeBron 17, worn by the King in the Los Angeles Lakers' season opener. This particular colorway carries the iconic Laker purple, complete with 2K logo and NBA 2K20's "Welcome to the next" tagline.
Co-created by 2K and Nike Basketball, the MyPLAYER Nation experience caters to the common interests between hardcore gamers and sneakerheads.
Using their team of choice, players can compete with fellow fans during the regular season and playoffs that mirror the NBA schedule. Upon achieving specific milestones, they will be given the chance to purchase Gamer Exclusives and redeem virtual pairs after linking their Nike and 2K accounts.
In the LeBron 17's case, gamers have to beat James' player rating of 97 — by upskilling the MyPLAYER avatar to 98 — then win their next matchup to enable the feature.
Nine more GEs are set to be introduced via NBA 2K20 throughout the season, with the majority to be directly connected to MyPLAYER Nation records. One pair will be unlockable through surprise Nike SNKRS cam execution.
The Nike Lebron 17 "'Bron 2K" Gamer Exclusive hits the market on October 29, while physical sneakers will be initially exclusive in the US.
