KOBE Bryant has launched his first signature shoe since his retirement, the Nike Kobe A.D in an event in Los Angeles on Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time).
The A.D. stands for 'After Death' and was fittingly unveiled on Dia de los Muertos or the 'Day of the Dead' to commemorate Bryant's 'death' as a professional basketball player (complete with lighted candles, framed portraits in a 'wake') since his retirement from the NBA six months ago.
"What it means to me is the balance of both things," the 38-year old future Hall of Famer said of the significance of the Mexican holiday. "You gotta be able to have the balance between the light and the dark. You've got to be able to have death in order to have life. It's finding the balance of both things and finding the beauty in both of those things."
The Nike Kobe A.D. continues the line of lightweight, low-profile on-court footwear. Cushioning is provided by a combination of a Zoom Air unit in the heel, Lunarlon foam in the midsole and a minimal rubber outsole with micro-tread traction.
The performance of the shoe is meant to be responsive, flexible and provide a good feel of the court. A breathable mesh upper with incorporated Dynamic Flywire helps in locking down the foot for quick changes of direction toward the basket or to cover an opponent.
The Nike Kobe A.D. has a suggested retail price of P8,095 and will be availablein select Nike Park, Nike Stadium and Titan stores in Metro Manila by December 16.
