INSPIRED by Kyrie Irving’s biomechanics and quickness, the Kyrie 2 was officially announced by Nike Basketball on Thursday.
The Kyrie 2 is designed and engineered to the specifications of the All-Star point guard.
On the technology side, designer Leo Chang utilized Hyperfuse construction that features breathability and ligh materials for the upper and heel-located Zoom Air for fast-response cushioning.
A notable feature of the shoe is a first-of-its-kind curved midsole and outsole design that is meant to enhance banking and cutting — movements that are elements of Irving’s game. An improved herringbone traction pattern on the sidewalls and the outsole for extra grip.
Another first for the line is a midfoot strap in an unconventional wrapping from the medial to lateral side to provide secure support around the foot and not the ankle for a more secure fit, particularly during sudden starts and stops.
It wouldn’t be a signature shoe if it didn’t have details to connect it with its namesake. The #2, Irving’s signature and Irving’s motto“JBY” (“just be you”) are located throughout the shoe.
Nike said the shoe is now available on their NIKEiD website. The Kyrie 2 “Effect” colorway is scheduled for release on nike.com and selected global retailers on December 15 while the second release, “Inferno” is scheduled for January 2. Locally they will be available in Nike stores such as Nike Park, Nike Stadium, Nike Forum and Titan with an SRP of P6,595.
