IMMERSING itself not just in the culture but also in the community, New Era Cap Philippines collaborated with Siargao-based brand Gwapitos to mark the opening of its newest branch in General Luna.
The same week the island commemorated the second anniversary of the 2021 typhoon that changed it forever, New Era opened its doors to the public bringing in quality apparel and some exclusive collections.
This makes the branch only the second island store to open after Boracay. While D-Mall holds the latter, the Siargao store is on the streetside.
Another unique feature of the store is the ‘barefoot zone’ rule where visitors are asked to leave their footwear outside to keep it neat.
A couple of fixturing inside it is also made of recycled materials, a pioneering effort for the brand to stay anchored on its goal, and align its values to the community’s.
With resourcefulness on top of the list of qualities Siargao natives, New Era kept the commitment.

“We understand that we are going to be part of a good community that’s why our collaboration with Gwapitos is very much important. They know us, and we’re happy to work with them,” Daniel Broderick, managing director of New Era Asia, told SPIN Life.
The collaboration between Gwapito’s, a popular lifestyle brand in the locale, and New Era produced a full-blown collection of four hats with a wide variety of colors and styles.
“We are two brands that came together to make something great, and it would make a lot of sense for the community as locals, tourists, and foreigners who like to shop often come here to find brands they want to identify with, and we can provide that,” Broderick added.
The store holds classic baseball cap designs, NBA team caps, apparel, bags, slippers, and Siargao-exclusive releases –a way to elevate island souvenirs.
