CATRIONA Gray would be the first to admit that she’s not really a regular runner.
But Miss Universe 2018 did not skip the chance to make a difference for the environment in her own little way as she participated in the Galaxy Earth Day Run 2025 on Sunday at SM Mall of Asia Complex.
“I’ve always had this perception that for you to be participating in a fun run, you have to be a runner. I’m not necessarily a runner, but I love coming together with friends for a good cause,” she said.
“It’s Earth Day, so we’re celebrating sustainability and coming together as a community to make a change for the better. This is my first-ever fun run and I really want to do better for our earth and to come together and share the values of fitness and fun for a good cause.”
Gray was overjoyed to be one of the 17,000 runners who earned their finisher’s medal in the race which highlighted sustainability, wellness, and the importance of staying active, all while promoting environmentally conscious choices.
Raising awareness
“I think this run raises awareness for sustainability cause it brings everyone together from all walks of life,” she said. “Some of us are athletes, some of us are fitness enthusiasts, some of us just want to come together and do something for the environment.
"So it’s more of pushing awareness which is something that is needed in a such a connected age, but there’s always the ability to be educated more, to learn more, and hopefully, to do more as well.”
Proof of that were the collapsible cups which the runners used to hydrate for the duration of the race, which was also held simultaneously with fun runs in Cebu at City di Mare and in Davao at Azuela Cove.
